For Your Mind

Reading is one of my all time favorite past times/hobbies.  I wish I were creative enough to sew, scrapbook, photograph, paint or draw, but I'm not. I don't pretend to be and therefore avoid those activities as best I can.  However, I L.O.V.E. to read. I've been known to read an entire book in a day. This, of course, was before child.  From about the week X was born until he started really sleeping through the night (at about 2 1/2 yrs old) I was on the 3rd page (that's right PAGE) of the same book.  Ouch. 2 1/2 years...of dust - on a book - on my nightstand, neither of which were dusted during that time either.  I love to share books I've read and those I'm considering, so here is where I'd like share with you my adventures in books.  Feel free to share and comment!

Confession...I'm a Twi-Hard!
I just started reading the Twilight series over the last few months (since July to be exact...I harken back to the lack of spare time I have in my life) and I've become a bit addicted. It's like the perfect blend of romance, suspense and supernatural. Ok, ok...let's be honest, it's like porn for women (I thank my husband for this comment)!  What woman wouldn't want to be obsessed over the way Edward is for Bella. And to have a huge hunk of a man pining away for you while he hunts vampires to protect you.  SERIOUSLY!  Now, the challenge to this obsession is finding a balance between reading the books as fast as I can so I can watch the movie and not neglecting my son and husband for extended periods of time.  Not an easy task.  The other night I picked up the latest book (Eclipse) and started to dig in as I waited for Spongebob to end so X could get dressed for bed.  As I all too easily tuned him out (along with Spongebob - which I've gotten REALLY good at lately), I fell deeper and deeper into the story.  After a while, a fleeting thought crossed my mind, "I wonder what time it is..." as I look at the clock once, twice and a third time I realize it's 10:00pm!! and there sits my sweet boy watching lord only knows what on TV and I realize I only have moments to get him in bed, shower and get in the bed for my 30 minutes of "grown-up" time. So a note to myself was made - SELF: Reading is to only happen AFTER the child is in bed, on nights when "grown-up" time has been had (or not going to happen) or weekends only. Duly noted!

  1. Okay, I just read the twilight books and I LOVED them. Keenan still makes fun of me, but I won't deny it! They are total crap, but absolutely fantastic!
